Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
Q: Is France a good place to travel with kids?
A: Yes, France is a great place for kids and unlike other European countries such as Spain which is primarily known for it's beach holidays, France has so much more to offer in terms of attractions to visit, places to eat out, as well as fabulous beaches. Northern parts of France such as Brittany and Normandy are great choices for families that find southern Europe too hot but who are still in search of warm weather and great beaches. The west coast of France is a haven for watersports, such as body boarding and surfing as well as cycling (again, in more moderate temperatures) and the south of France is popular with the older children, who love a browse around famous cities such as Nice, Cannes and St Tropez.
Q: What is the best time of year for a family holiday in France?
A: Most seaside resorts properly come to life during the summer months of July and August. Most resorts in France are busy during that time, but there will be plenty to do, lots of restaurants and shops open and there will be a range of lifeguarded beaches available. May half term is a lovely time to go to the west coast of the south of France for some early summer sun, resorts are quiet and driving to different places to explore is easy.
Q: Where are the best family-friendly destinations in France?
A: If you are travelling with children and they have a tendency to get bored easily in a car, then we would advise keeping the travelling time to a minimum. Just across the channel from the UK is Normandy and Brittany, two great regions, famous for lovely beaches and plenty of attractions to visit. Head to the south west coast of France if you have teens, they are sure to love the body boarding and surfing beaches in that area.
Q: What activities are available for family holidays in France?
A: Almost every activity you can think of will be available in France! France does cycling very well, with miles of dedicated cycle ways along the coasts as well as cross country. Horse riding is popular, especially on the coast and keen riders will love the forest hacks that lead to a gallop along the beach! Watersports can be done anywhere along France's long coast, from body boarding and surfing along the west coast, snorking in Brittany to kitesurfing, windsuring in the south.
Q:What types of family accommodations are available in France?
You can find lots of different types of family accommodation, from gites, cottages, apartments and camping / mobile homes - it's a popular tourist destination. Siblu offers camping and mobile home accommodation - stylish two or three bedroom static caravans that are located within safe communities, with pools, sports and entertainment on hand.
Q: How do I plan a family holiday in France?
A: Firstly you'll want to think about how many hours you wish to travel and also what kind of temperature will suit everyone in your family. As mentioned before, if you prefer to avoid high temperatures then consider the west and north coasts of France. Many families find it easy to book their accommodation and travel separately, as there are more options open to suit. Many people living in the midlands and southeast of England will travel either Dover to Calais on the Eurotunnel or P&O Ferry services, whilst people in the west of the UK may prefer Brittany Ferries who sail into Roscoff, St Malo, Cherbourg and Caen.
